Today we will continue my series of blog posts about reasons why books are still very relevant besides the fact that it is a TikTok trending community…
Two key reasons—knowledge and learning—often stir debate. Some argue that not every book genre offers meaningful insights. However, I firmly believe even the most clichéd romance novel can impart valuable lessons. It might not offer profound life lessons, but sometimes, it's the simple reassurances like "love heals" or "friendship matters" that readers crave.
Textbooks often get dismissed as just "school reads." Yet, they've been crucial in our education, shaping our understanding of the world. While textbooks are not everyone's cup of tea, they undeniably contribute to our knowledge base as a society.
Personally, I find I learn the most from non-fiction or historical fiction types of books. These genres go deep into their narratives, leaving a lasting impact on readers. The lessons learned from these genres are mostly about the journey rather than the conclusion.
Moreover, I believe every life experience, no matter how minor, offers valuable lessons. For me, as a non-native English speaker, reading books plays a very important role in expanding my vocabulary and improving my writing skills.
But let's not overlook the cultural heritage and identity that books preserve. They hold stories, traditions, and values passed down through generations. All of the knowledge from those stories and pages gives readers a deeper understanding of their own identity and heritage, as well as those of others.
Books are a great part of our understanding as a society of all knowledge created and all learning we are able to do.
Read you soon,
Bea.
